The 2nd Infantry Regiment United States Colored Troops was organized from June 20 to November 11, 1863, at Arlington, Virginia. Though the regiment was accredited to the District of Columbia, it's ranks were filled by men from the District, Virginia and Maryland. A full one fifth of the regiment was from Maryland.
The unit mustered out January 5, 1866. The Regiment suffered 173 casualties: 3 officers and 24 enlisted men ,killed and mortally wounded; and 11 officers and 135 enlisted men, lost to disease.

The 2nd Infantry Regiment United State Colored Troops Living History Association was created to participate in the reenactment of the Battle of Natural Bridge to assure the authenticity and accuracy of the battle as it occurred on March 6, 1865. Since our inception, the Association has grown to include men, women and children, who have participated in events throughout the state, region and country; honoring the legacy of these soldiers and their families.

Our Members
The membership of the 2nd Infantry Regiment United States Colored Troops Consists of Men, Women and Children from various walks of life who have come together to prmote the African American Perspective of the Civil War. The Association particpates in various workshops, battlefied reenactments, historcal dramatizations, cultural celebrations, living history presentations and lectures carrying the memory of the scrifices made by people of color to secure a Union victory and work towards the end of the tyranny of slavery.
